In Search of Marcel Proust:

a do-it-yourself study tour

… a unique … week-long …
Proustian travel experience, featuring:

walking tours of French sites about Proust’s life and work

visits to French museums to view Proustian objects

dining at period French restaurants

The “do-it-yourself” aspect of this tour is that participants do their own purchasing of major components, including international flights, internal transportation, and:

a five-night stay at Elysees Union in Paris, where Proust last lived and worked

a two-night stay at the Grand Hotel in Cabourg, where Proust frequently
vacationed and which is the source for Balbec’s Grand Hotel

    has taught ongoing classes on In Search of Lost Time at the University of Chicago's Graham
    School of General Studies and Chicago's Newberry Library. His lectures on In Search of Lost Time

Tuition: $550, including all materials. All other expenses are the sole responsibility of participants.
Minimum of six; maximum of fifteen.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Check-in at Elysee Union hotel.
Visit Pere Lachaise Cemetery , where Proust is buried, and Hommage au Captaine Dreyfus.
Dinner at Le Laurent.
Overnight at the Elysees Union.

DAY 2

Train to Illiers-Combray.
Tour locations that relate to Proust’s childhood and served as a source for Combray
- including Aunt Leonies House and Le Pré Catelan.
Walk the two “ways.” Visit Musee Marcel Proust.
Lunch at Le Florent.
Overnight at Elysees Union.

DAY 3

Tour Paris locations relating to Proust’s life
- including 9 boulevard Malesherbes, the Morriss column, Jardin des Champs-Elysees,
  Allee Marcel Proust, Lycee Condorcet, 45 rue de Courcelles, 102 Boulevard Hausmann.
Visit Musee Carnavalet.
Tea at the Ritz.
Overnight at Elysees Union.

DAY 4:

Visit Musee d’Orsay for Impressionist sources for Elstir.
Lunch at Ladurée.
Tea at Musée Jacquemart-André
Overnight at Elysees Union.

DAY 5:

Tour the Bois de Bologne area, including Etoile and the Jardin d’Acclimatation Zoo.
Lunch at Le Chalet des Illes.
Overnight at Elysees Union.

DAY 6

Train from Paris to Cabourg.
Check-in at the Grand Hotel.
Tour the Promenade Marcel Proust; visit the Casino.
Dinner at the Grand Hotel.
Overnight at the Grand Hotel.

DAY 7:

Tour the Trouville area, including around the Hotel des Roches Noires, La Raspelière source.
Dinner at the Grand Hotel.
Overnight at the Grand Hotel.
